Cinnamon Germs

This experiment is courtesy of the girl scout handbook. Using cinnamon and vegetable oil you can find the best way to wash your hands and get germs off.

3 people minimum are needed. Take one tablespoon of vegetable oil per person and get it all over your hands. Then take 1 teaspoon of cinnamon per person and rub that all over your oily hands. The cinnamon represents germs which you normally can't see.

Now one person washes their hands in cold water only. One person washes their hands in warm water only. The last person washes their hands in warm water and soap.

here are the before....

and after pictures.

The results were that person who washed in cold only stayed pretty germy. person who washed in warm water only got somewhat clean. Person who washed in warm water with soap got almost completely clean.
A good science experiment and hand washing lesson all in one!

Very neat. I've heard of using glitter too but cinnamon would smell so much better! ;-)
