Mountain Horned Dragon babies!

A very exciting thing happened over winter/spring 2013. Our mountain Horned Dragon lizard named Aran laid some eggs. This might not sound too odd but we'd had Aran for well over a year at this point and also we thought Aran was a boy! It turns out that Aran is a girl and also that Mountain Horned dragons can lay fertuile eggs a year or more after having seen a mate. We didn't think the eggs would hatch, where there is a chance however slim I feel we should give life a chance so we researched this and left the eggs as they would need to be IF baby lizards were indeed inside. Later we candelled them and found there was indeed something inside. Months later towards the end of may and first half of June various eggs hatched and out came teeny tiny mountain horned dragons! Eventually 12 babies hatched although one did not live past a couple months old. Most of the others went to the reptile store and were soon bought be happy new families. We kept one baby. her name is Elle. We call her that because not wanting to name lizards too soon (not knowing which we'd keep and if they were boys or girls) I just called them L1, L2, L7....... for Lizard 1,2....I believe a facebook friend started us on that naming trend. So when we kept our one baby her name was already L, the only L left= Elle! We would have loved to keep them all but the thought of so many lizards, who would each need their own large terrarium when grown, well it just wasn't very practical so we kept just our one "L". It was a wild ride, lots of fun and a little sadness too. Raising baby "dragons" never would have guessed we'd get such an opportunity, it happened and we were glad.

Tristan's off to Boy Scout camp

First time off to camp without older brother Colin. I was a little worries, especially when the camp ended up on Good morning America due to lightening strikes and kids getting hurt! Not what a mother wants to wake up to!! Thankfully Tristan was fine as were all the scouts, the news agencies exaggerated the storm. Tristan had a great time, earned lots of merit badges and wants to go back again next year.

Tristan takes a chilly dip in the pool. The water doesn't really warm up until well into July. The new salt water filter system is working very, very well.
