We've participated in the Pinewood Derby at the local level for 3 years with varying results This year, younger boys final year as cubs, Colin made it into the regional race by placing 2nd at the local level. Colin's win was back in Feb. and the regionals weren't until May so he was not able to see his car in all that time (so the boys won't be tempted to alter them). Finally the long wait was over. We got up very early one May Saturday and off to the races we went. I don't suspect any of us held out much hope that Colin would do very well against people who won their races from all over NH. Well what a surprise when Colin started WINNING many of his races! Eventually it was time for the final four cars. Colin was happy and nervous, the announcer had the four boys stand up to the mike and countdown the final heat...and Colin placed 3rd! What a great showing Colin, there were over 60 cars in the race! Colin was very happy and proud and his siblings were thrilled for him. What a great way to finish out his Cub Scout years.
Photos below but not excellent ones. My camera just doesn't take good photos in auditoriums and large indoor spaces.
