We have stayed busy since the boys got home from camp. Lizards and salamanders have been caught and released. This big one below was so cute!
The boys have been making bows and arrows.
Colin shot an arrow through a window and it broke, sigh!
Colin and Tristan decided to start a fish tank together. The very day they bought their fish, just two fish and a catfish, the two fish had babies! So the kids had to spend that evening fishing baby fish out of the tank so the parents wouldn't eat them!
baby fish!
Then suddenly it is time to start a new year of homeschooling.
These Mini Offices seem like a great idea. They have various helpful things in them such as maps, abbreviations, math charts, writing charts...depending on the age of the child.
In the afternoon we tried to install the Switched On Schoolhouse discs and had some trouble with 2 of the three computers. It was frustrating. We also did some yard work and then the kids played for the remainder of the afternoon.

Well, I'm sure you won't be surprised that the amphibo-reptilophobe in me was quite creeped out by your salamander photos! Bleh! I'm glad you are braver than I!
Cold? I'm SO jealous!!!
Those mini offices look useful, Jodi! Is the idea to help them to concentrate better?
Cute salamander!! We had a terrible salamander experience last week. The cat caught one. I tried to save it...even tried to resuscitate it...but to no avail.
I always enjoy hearing about your change of seasons...it gives me hope for cooler weather. I am sorry to see your summer ending though.
I always enjoy visiting your blog, Jodi. It's fun to see you all enjoy the lake and all of creation. God is good!
I like the mini-office idea A LOT! Can you share more of what you have on them? I've seen them for younger kids but not so much older ones. I saw some foam board - like the science fair display boards but smaller - at Wally World last night & almost bought them to make some. But I figured I'd better do some more research first! ;-)
Ginger, I always worry just a little that some creature on my blog will freak someone out!
Dorothy, The mini offices are like a ready reference. They tend to have common tings which come up in learning on them. For instance a multiplication chart, a cursive handwriting chart for proper letter formation for new handwriting learners, maps, common abbreviations, punctuation rules, parts of speech, writing ideas.
Yvonne, Oh I can relate, have tried to ave a few things out cats get. Sometimes they make it but often not.
Lisa, I wish I had saved links. I googledmini offices and printed out the things I liked from various sites. The older kids have USA & World maps and state abbreviations, days of the week and months abbrevions, writing prompts and rules, punctuation rules, math charts for fast reference, the girl scout law, the boys have the Boy scout law and other scout things they need to memorize before the graduate from cubs, parts of speech, the perodic table, that's about it I think. Tristan's does not have parts of speech or as many maps and has a 100 craft and a phonics chart and a time telling chart. On the cover of each is a bible verse and a cute graphic that reminds me of each kid, being animals or mad scientist...depending on the child. I just used a file folder each using all sides and back. I did see some quite big ones of various sites though. I may make them one more each for foreign language learning.
Typo
Tristan's has a 100 chart not craft. They all have the handwriting correct formation charts.
Fall - I'm not ready and yet I am. Fun to see your documentation of the season change. Loved all the fish babies.
I keep waiting for our supplies, maybe I need to just take a trip to the Y100 store and make some mini-offices....I've noted the kids have really lost in math skills....this could really help.
Oh man there is a really arrogant man talking on skype across the room....grrr....I just coughed really loud and turned a video on to remind him I can hear his conversation - but I guess it doesn't matter. ::snort::
I'm praying we don't have snow until we move into our home....we need our fall/winter clothes. LOL
Oooohhhh! I agree with everyone else.... love the mini office idea! Thanks for sharing.
