Spring where I am

Spring Where You Are

I saw this challenge on Lisa in Maine's blog and definitely wanted to post what spring looks like where I live. Spring has started to arrive just in the last few days. A week ago we were skiing, a week ago we were fundraising for the cub scouts when a heavy snowfall began. Then suddenly a few days ago it warmed up, it rained instead of snowed and LOTS of snow is melting!

A week ago we still have big snow drifts here in west/central New Hampshire.

Now the only drifts left are right by the road where it was built up by the snow plows through the winter. That is always the last place to melt. Just a couple days ago Colin and Tristan were pouring hot water on remaining snow in an attempt to speed up melting! We all want spring now!

The flowers and bushes are not quite ready to bloom but soon......

Life, there is life still after the winter. This spider was spotted about 5 days ago, the first sign of life outdoors this spring.

Flower is ready to get out and explore! Is there anything in the pond?

Or around the strawberry garden?

The wood pile is getting low but we shouldn't need to heat very many more days. Usually just in the morning to take the chill off.

This patch of ground is quite representative of the land around our house today March 31'st.
Half- we are about halfway to having all the snow gone from the ground.

It could still snow, I suppose it is likely that it will and some chilly nights are still here. This ice is still on the lake and it's a little colder down there. Winter will end though it will soon lose the battle to spring, as it does every year about this time.

Ok, I get tired of 90° weather in October and sand instead of dirt and fire ants in the lovely state of FL, BUT I am so glad that it doesn't look like that outside right now. :)

This is quite a different take on spring than the others in Lisa's contest...but having lived in Maine for 20 or so years, I remember well what it was like. Spring thaw was FUN...all that mud and the smell...there is truly a unique smell of spring there...one that I miss immensely. Thanks for reminding me of what Spring can be like.

You know - your spring looks suspiciously like winter and mine looks suspiciously like summer. ::snort:: I commented to Linda that our spring is just a little less brown than typical. LOL

I bet your summer looks like our spring or fall. Your weather is amazing to this floridian!

Thank you for visiting my blog and entering the $25 GC to the Natural Store giveaway. I wish everyone could have won!
Hopefully you will come back soon and enter more giveaways I will be hosting this month.
Happy Spring to you!
Love the pics. It is cold where I am too so it is difficult to think about spring.

Yup, looks a lot like my spring too. ;-) I'll be posting photos later in the week for the winners announcement on Friday.

Spring is here in PA! The grass is greener, and the spring flowers have bloomed.

We went through several cords of wood this winter. I guess about 5 or so.

Linda is right. There is a definite smell of spring in the air in certain parts of the country this time of the year.

It has been interesting to see the very different "springs" we experience across the country!
